GE GSL25JFPH BS Control board failure???

Postby mtnhi93 » Thu Sep 11, 2008 12:53 pm

I have a GE GSL25JFPH BS that is ~3 1/2 yrs. old. It has recently developed an intermittent, high pitched "noise"--possibly the "howling" that the previous forums described?

If I turn the freezer off for a few seconds, the sound stops and doesn't return for "awhile"--sometimes a few minutes, other times, much longer...

From reading this (and other online) forum(s) it sure appears to be the control board--since all other features of this appliance work (seemingly) fine...

I called GE Service...their Parts Dept. quoted me $153.73 for the replacement board (I wonder where the other guy found it for $85, last year? See Mar. 2007 reply on GE Side by Side Variable Fan Speed thread initiated by henry1 6/06)...The other issue? I am a woman with limited electronic repair expertise--just HOW easily can this be replaced? (Note: I have replaced ceiling fixtures, elements in a hot water heater, kitchen faucets and the like, by myself, so I'm not totally inept...) Conversely, I KNOW having one of their repairmen is going to cost me even more...

I would appreciate any advice / feedback.

Hi,

The other issue? I am a woman with limited electronic repair expertise--just HOW easily can this be replaced?

Fairly easy, no special tools or skills required.

I have replaced ceiling fixtures, elements in a hot water heater, kitchen faucets and the like

You should be fine then.

I wonder where the other guy found it for $85, last year?

Discounted price from GE as they had other problems as well.

Thank you for the reply--AND information!

A local repairman called me back and made some good suggestions to try, before ordering the control board--in hopes of narrowing down / confirming the source of the hum (howl)...I plan to attempt those suggestions, first...

Again, thanks for your help.

I am currently having the same hissing issue with my GE model GSH25JSRFS . . . would that same control board you recommended work on my model as well ?
I too am a woman with limited knowledge/resources to fix large appliances but its driving me CRAZY so its worth a shot. Any help would be great !

Hi,

Yes, the exact same board is used for your model.

I have a GE Refrigerator model #GSH25JSTASS that seems to have the same howling problem as listed above. I read that there was some type of recall pertaing to this problem, but can not find it anywhere on the GE website. Where else should I look for recalls for this problem? Thank you

Hi,

Have seen recalls on moisture and such problems with GE refrigerators...but nothing immediately comes to mind with the control board.

Some places to check...
